About
Agora Oil & Gas AS was formed in October 2009 by experienced professionals from the Exploration and Production industry in Norway and the UK. The company works in the field of exploration and exploitation of mature parts of the North Sea in areas of low geological and operational risk.
In November 2009, Agora announced an agreement with RIT Capital Partners plc and Lord Rothschild’s family interests to fund a programme of exploration and appraisal projects in Norway and the UK. Under the terms of this agreement the investors will invest up to $200 million in North Sea drilling, and Agora has embarked on an active drilling programme that has, to date, provided several commercial discoveries.
Agora’s goal is to be the most profitable, efficient and effective North Sea exploration company in the market, with the most enjoyable working environment in the industry.
The Agora was an open ‘place of assembly’ in the city-states of classical Greece, serving both as a market place for merchants to buy and sell their products and as a location for citizens of the newly-founded democracies to listen to the proclamations of rival politicians as they competed for votes. A forerunner of the Roman Forum and the modern Piazza or public square, the Agora represents enterprise, openness and innovation.
In the same spirit, Agora Oil & Gas endeavours to realise value from North Sea hydrocarbon exploration and appraisal projects by utilising its technical and commercial expertise to build a high quality portfolio of assets in this dynamic and pioneering sector of the upstream oil and gas industry.
